The biodeterioration of plastic based products can be a serious problem for manufacturers. Failure to add the proper amount of antimicrobial additive can lead to premature product failure due to loss of mechanical strength, flexibility or adhesive strength. Also, adverse aesthetics such as musty odor, permanent staining or microbial surface growth can lead to customer complaints
Vanquish® products are broad spectrum antimicrobial formulations that protect the surface of consumer products and prevent objectionable odors and aesthetic problems such as staining, or growth of microbes on or in the substrate. Based on active ingredient, N-butyl-1, 2-benzisothiazolin-3-one and formulations with other actives such as Zinc Pyrithione, Vanquish® products are used for the protection of natural rubber and plastic products made from variety of polymers incorporated into diverse applications.
Vanquish® products are effective in most plastics compositions and can be used to preserve natural rubber and such plastics as PVC, polyurethane, silicone, acrylics, and others to produce articles such as:
Polyurethane foam applications are particularly susceptive to growth of microbes due to their porous structure. The microbial growth problem is further exacerbated in humid and wet environments. The production of polyurethane foams requires a chemical reaction at the foam producing facility. This poses a problem since quite a few antimicrobials interfere with this reaction to make foam and therefore these additives cannot be used. Many antimicrobials lack ease of integration in the process. Vanquish® products solve both of these problems. They do not interfere in the foam making process. Vanquish® also provides ease of use as they can be delivered to the reaction through one of the two ingredients used to make the foam. Their broad spectrum activity also helps them succeed by bringing about balanced bacterial and fungal control to the applications they are used in.
